FIRST GRADERS EAT WORMS!

April 9, 2008

It's true!  Not only did the CCS First Graders eat worms, they also ate the dirt the worms were in.  To kick off our plant unit, we made a special recipe called 'Dirt Pudding' and enjoyed eating it with gummy worms!  At the bottom of this page we've included the recipe in case you'd like to try it at home.  Here are a few snapshots of our edible dirt and worms.

Making the dirt pudding...

Almost looks too good to eat, huh?

But we tried it and found it to be YUMMY!!

We especially liked grossing each other out with the gummy worms...

Dirt Pudding

2 packages Oreo cookies
1/2 cup softened margarine
8 oz cream cheese (we used fat free), softened
1 cup powdered sugar
2 boxes instant chocolate pudding mix (we used fat free/sugar free)
3 cups fat-free skim milk
12 oz Cool Whip Free Whipped Topping
1 tsp vanilla
gummy worms
new 8" flowerpot (could line with foil)
new clean trowel

Crush cookies with a rolling pin or in a food processor until they resemble potting soil. Cream together margarine, cream cheese, sugar and vanilla until fluffy. Blend pudding mix and milk, fold into whipped topping. Fold cream cheese mixture and pudding mixture together. Put some crushed cookies in bottom of flower pot, lay a few gummy worms on the cookies, top with a layer of pudding mixture. Repeat until gone. Refrigerate 10-12 hours. Before serving insert plastic flowers and top with more worms. Serve by digging out small portions with a new, clean trowel.
