RABBIT PIZZA
On Wednesday, April 4, 2007, the CCS
first graders made a special recipe in class. It's called 'Rabbit Pizza'
and we call it that because it's made from ingredients that we think rabbits
would like. In science we learned all about plants. We also
studied animals and the kinds of food they eat. In health we learned
about eating vegetables and nutritious snacks. This cooking activity was
a fun way to tie it all together.
Before we
started the cooking activity I asked the 12 students present how many of them
liked broccoli (5 did), cauliflower (4 did), carrots (10 did) and pizza (12 did).
Once we made our special veggie version of pizza, all 12 kids were willing to
take a piece and give it a try. Of the 12 who tried it, 6 did not like it
but the other 6 did! Even some of the kids who didn't like
the vegetables on their own DID like our rabbit pizza!
Once we were
finished with our recipe, we hopped out to recess and enjoyed the sunny spring
morning. Below are some snapshots of our cooking activity. Click any

The Rabbit pizza recipe follows the
photos.
Rabbit
Pizza Recipe
2 (8 oz.) cans crescent roll dough (can use reduced fat)
2 pkg. cream cheese, softened (can use fat free)
1/2 cup ranch dressing (can use fat free)
1/2 cup grated carrots
1/2 cup finely chopped broccoli
1/2 cup finely chopped cauliflower
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (can use reduced fat or fat free)
(You could add other vegetables such as bell peppers or onion
if you like.)
Unroll 2 cans crescent roll dough and press onto pizza pan or
cookie sheet forming a solid layer of seamless dough. Bake at 350 degrees for
10-12 minutes. Cool. Combine cream cheese and ranch dressing; beat until
smooth. Spread on cooled crust. Sprinkle vegetables evenly over cream cheese
layer. Top with cheddar cheese. Cut into bite-sized squares for snacking.
