FIRST GRADE FIELD TRIP
BOOTHEEL YOUTH MUSEUM - MALDEN, MISSOURI

On Wednesday, October 10, the CCS first grade class visited the Bootheel Youth Museum in Malden, Missouri. We had a great day exploring all the neat things the museum had to offer. Thank you to all the adults who helped provide transportation and supervision. Below are several snapshots of our day. We were good listeners!
Below, you'll find lots of pictures from the Bubble Room. It was one of our favorites! Can you believe that we were able to make bubbles big enough to stand inside?
We also really liked the grocery store. We were able to shop for groceries, and work at the store as cashiers. We spent a lot of time there.
Another favorite was the restaurant. We enjoyed being the chefs, the waiters, and the customers.
This was an interesting activity. We could actually become the character in a video game. We stood in front of a green wall and moved our characters up and down by raising our hands or squatting down. We were facing a big screen with the video game playing. The other two pictures below show the 'shadow wall'. We would make our bodies into funny shapes next to this white wall, then someone would hit the button to take a picture of us. Our shadows would be frozen on the wall, even after we moved. It was really fun!
We had more than enough energy to keep going all day, but after lunch some of our moms had to take a little rest! They did get a second wind, though, and explored the tunnel with us.
The pictures below show us inside a mirror box - there were thousands of reflections of our faces!
Even though we had a really fun time, we did some learning, too. We participated in activities that helped us learn about gravity, recycling, momentum, banking, and so much more. We also enjoyed the Lewis and Clark exhibit.
The following snapshots were taken in the barn. We could 'milk' the pretend cow, and we could lift a bale of cotton using a pulley. We also enjoyed sitting on the big tractor.
We tried our hands at delivering the mail...
For those who are musically inclined...
For those who are interested in medicine...
There was a replica of the space shuttle we could walk through.
There was also a replica of a house. It was just our size and we really enjoyed playing in it.
Of course one of the best parts of the day was having a chance to just play with our friends. We especially enjoyed shopping in the gift shop and eating our picnic lunch delivered by the local McDonald's.
Overall, our only complaint about the day was that it ended too soon. We had a great time and our teacher says we were very well behaved. We enjoyed our special day at the Bootheel Youth Museum and hope you have enjoyed our pictures. Visit us online again soon.
