Social Studies is taught daily for two semesters. The goal for history is to develop an interest in, and appreciation for, their American Heritage. Our American Heritage surveys American history in a Christian perspective through the biographies of great Americans. The emphasis is on patriotism, character development, and the variety of contributions made by Americans to this country. An important part of third grade history is geography and map study skills. Students will learn the location of the seven continents, four oceans, the fifty states, Appalachian Mountains, Gulf of Mexico, Great Lakes, Mississippi River, Canada, Mexico, Rocky Mountains, Yellowstone National Park, Grand Canyon, and Yosemite National Park. They will also be introduced to basic map skills.
Need help with your states? These are really cool websites for practicing the location of the states as well as the continents and oceans.
